P Katz October Celebration Log
© Patricia Katz MCE CHRP, Optimus Consulting
2006 marked my twentieth year in business. To commemorate the occasion, my friend and colleague, Maggie, gave me a wall stencil with the word 'Celebrate'. I affixed that to the wall in my office and declared the year 2006 to be a year of celebration.
In 2006 I celebrated my 54th birthday and my 32nd wedding anniversary. My children reached 26 and 21 years of age; and my eldest daughter married. Major milestones always stand out, but my intent was to find something to celebrate every single day of the year.
This log is the expression of that intent. Day by day, I recorded experiences, events, and conditions - large and small. Despite life's challenges and disappointments, I always found something to celebrate.
I'm sharing this with you in the hopes that it might help you notice and celebrate more of the good things to be found in your everyday life, too.
Appreciatively yours, Patricia
PS - Why not try this yourself? Download one of the Celebration Log templates and create your own record of appreciation day by day. It's available in two forms with my compliments:
- My Celebration Log - MS Word Doc (333 kb)
- My Celebration Log - PDF Format (77 kb)
Oct 1 - Today I celebrate ... my confidence and professional ability to read a group, switch plans, and facilitate based on the needs of the moment. The Women Entrepreneur Retreat opener was stronger for it.
Oct 2 - Today I celebrate ... those who create and maintain retreat centers like St. Michael's. Such beauty and peace on the prairie.
Oct 3 - Today I celebrate ... the fun of dropping in for some Comedy Night entertainment with my youngest daughter. I love a girls' nights out - especially with my daughters.
Oct 4 - Today I celebrate ... the loyalty of fans who look out for me - in particular, the Pause reader who called to defend my work in the face of another author's book on the same topic.
Oct 5 - Today I celebrate ... the confidence of a husband who without batting an eye agrees to join me at a 'Better Sex After 50' seminar sponsored by the Women's Midlife Health Centre.
Oct 6 - Today I celebrate ... a safe road trip to Calgary - and much better weather for driving than our March adventure in that direction.
Oct 7 - Today I celebrate ... one on one time with my eldest daughter. Breakfast together and a chance to open our hearts and share our selves.
Oct 8 - Today I celebrate ... the poignant experience of having the next generation - Tristan and our new son in law - take the lead in cooking us a Thanksgiving dinner.
Oct 9 - Today I celebrate ... Dave's joy in shopping at Mercato - picking up Italian food supplies and goodies for an enroute picnic on the way home.
Oct 10 - Today I celebrate ... the hopefulness that comes with entering a competition (the Sask Book Awards) and imagining that I might have a chance to be recognized by my peers.
Oct 11 - Today I celebrate ... the opportunity to get out into the world and be a part of other peoples' positive excitement. Attended Picante Public Relations Saskatoon kick-off. New beginnings are so energizing.
Oct 12 - Today I celebrate ... my proficiency on the computer - and my ability to create a great looking learning guide with my own two hands and a bit of help from my brain.
Oct 13 - Today I celebrate ... being in the presence of a group of Home Economists. I'd forgotten what a powerfully positive force they can be.
Oct 14 - Today I celebrate ... delivering a fabulous keynote, an outstanding seminar, and selling 41 books to a group of 65.
Oct 15 - Today I celebrate ... a friend encouraging CBC Radio to profile my book on air.
Oct 16 - Today I celebrate ... invitations to speak that keep coming my way.
Oct 17 - Today I celebrate ... honesty - a realistic expression of what can and can't be done.
Oct 18 - Today I celebrate ... my dear friend, Elaine - who sensing that I was hurting not only called but sent beautiful gerbera daisies to lift my spirits.
Oct 19 - Today I celebrate ... my persistence in continuing to pursue media coverage, and an interview with the Winnipeg Free Press.
Oct 20 - Today I celebrate ... clients who appreciate what you did for them previously and call on you again.
Oct 21 - Today I celebrate ... the ability to sound off, and shrill the truth about my angst in the presence of my husband and know that he will love and understand.
Oct 22 - Today I celebrate ... my childhood friend, Corinne - and the fine, positive creative woman she has become. Her counsel helps me focus forward.
Oct 23 - Today I celebrate ... a private dinner with my daughter, and the closeness that seems to surface when we live apart but come together as friends.
Oct 24 - Today I celebrate ... resilience. I had the wrong hour for a teleseminar and missed dialing in. Short burst of frustration, followed by decision to simply purchase the download, listen to the recording, and put the error behind me.
Oct 25 - Today I celebrate ... being able to drop in for coffee with my folks at the farm en route to a program at Manitou. Good for them and for me.
Oct 26 - Today I celebrate ... feeling useful. Counseled a friend of my sister who is going through a tough patch in her life right now. I was able to be the listening ear and shoulder that she needed, and help point her in the direction of hope.
Oct 27 - Today I celebrate ... the birthday of my son in law, Marc. We are lucky to have him as part of the family.
Oct 28 - Today I celebrate ... patience, as I shop with my dear husband for clothes. Always an interesting experience.
Oct 29 - Today I celebrate ... the aunts. Spending a couple of hours in their company is a reminder of how unique each one is - and how they've all been special in their own way.
Oct 30 - Today I celebrate ... the seasonal fun of carving a pumpkin. Always a challenge, this year's face resembles a happy pineapple.
Oct 31 - Today I celebrate ... the willingness of colleagues and friends to invest their time in me and my projects. Linda - in her Halloween Rainbow Bright costume no less - went above and beyond in providing feedback on the video edit. I'm grateful.
